Yahoo Logo – Design And History!

yahoo logoYahoo is a famous internet portal that was founded in January of 1994 and incorporated on March 2, 1995 by two Stanford University graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo. Yahoo! has been one of the most visited websites on the Internet, with more than 130 million unique users.

YahooThe Web site originally started out as “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web” but eventually received a new moniker with the help of a dictionary. The name Yahoo! is an acronym for “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle,” but Jerry and David insist they selected the name because of its definition: “rude, unsophisticated, uncouth.”

Originally Yahoo logo was bright red in color and went well with the uncouth definition. The former version of the logo has now been revised into a purple colored icon with variations that include Y!Bang logo and white logo. The current type on the Yahoo! logo design comes from a T26 font named Able. It reflects the company philosophy which is “we thrive on creativity and ingenuity,” and “we believe humor is essential to success. We applaud irreverence and don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

Yahoo logosA ‘Y-Bang’ version has also been added to the mix. It is composed of a white ‘Y’ at the center of a purple circle, complemented by a purple exclamation mark (‘Y!’). The Yahoo! logo design is one of the most recognized today. There are even several ‘Yahoo logo makers’ scattered all over the word wide web, as admirers attempt to emulate this simple, but iconic emblem.
