Windows 8 New Logo – Flag or Window?
Microsoft is taking a leap of faith by changing its famous green, blue, yellow, red flag logo with straight-laced, minimalist, blue 2D logo.
When you are Windows, why your logo is a flag? This question was raised by Pentagram’s Paula Scher, who designed the new logo for MS Windows 8. The reply to Paula’s question was some thing like this;
“The new logo for Windows, is an actual window, slightly angled, and blue. This style is supposed to reflect movement, and the fast pace of the new operating system”.
Looking back to Windows old logos, it was always meant to be a window, even though it, through several years, it mysteriously evolved into a flag. And now after 22 successful years, Microsoft is taking a leap of faith to adopt a brave step of changing its multicolored logo to a new single color, minimalist 2D design. When Windows 8 appears, it will have a fresh modern style based heavily on Windows 7 user interface.
Despite of New Look, it’s a Throwback of Windows Very first Logo
No doubt the logo is great. However, it is a throwback to Windows 1.0 logo. It also resembles the tiles features in Metro UI. It will move when you start your computer, depending on the look and feel of your desktop, it adapts to look like and element of your setup. Originally, the logo is blue in color, but it if you have a watermark or texture desktop in green or red, the logo would adapt to that color and style. But still, that doesn’t stop people from comparing the new windows 8 logo with the Finland flag.
New Logo is just a Tip of the Iceberg of Windows 8 Design Features
Despite of the logo, other design features of Windows 8 include a Charms Bar and can be accessed but touch, keyboard or mouse shortcut. Through year 2010-2011, Microsoft has achieved their difficult task of making similarities between its branding and end-product.
Final launch of Windows 8 is expected somewhere in spring this year. If we go back to the origins of Windows logo, it can be seen that it really was meant to be a window. “Windows” really is a wonderful metaphor for computing and in line with this new logo Microsoft really wanted to rejoice the idea of a window in perspective. The idea is all about handing over technology to the people and empowering them to find their own perspectives and this is what this new evolved logo is meant to be. Less is done to re-design and more efforts were put to return it to its original meaning of Windows.
Currently Microsoft is doing marvelous job of branding and encouraging interest in Windows 8 and held two events to showcase its potential. Anyways…. All that can be said about Windows 8 Logo is that “We Love This Logo Very Much”.
